Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

1. Battery System Development & Design

  • Lead cross-functional teams in the end-to-end development of battery packs/modules, from concept and requirements definition through design, validation, and production launch.
  • Develop, evaluate, and implement cell selection, mechanical and electrical architectures, thermal management, BMS integration, and safety strategies.
  • Carry out root cause analysis and continuous improvement using industry-standard tools (DFMEA, PFMEA, etc.).

2. Battery Portfolio Management & Maintenance

  • Oversee the full battery system portfolio, ensuring the ongoing performance, reliability, and alignment of products with business needs and market trends.
  • Collaborate daily with module leads and other functions (quality, manufacturing, service, R&D, etc.) to monitor and maintain existing battery solutions, proactively identifying areas for fleet-wide maintenance, upgrades, or retirement.
  • Formulate and continuously update the battery technology roadmap, coordinating with all relevant teams to ensure forward-looking alignment and risk mitigation.
  • Establish processes for lifecycle management, monitoring field data, analyzing degradation and failure modes, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Lead the evaluation and introduction of new technologies and improvements across the existing portfolio.

3. Supplier Collaboration

  • Build and maintain strong technical relationships with global cell and module manufacturers, raw material suppliers, and technology partners.
  • Drive co-development projects, enabling rapid introduction of next-generation chemistries (Li-ion, solid-state, LFP, etc.), materials, and processes.
  • Establish and align technical requirements, specifications, and milestones with partners.
  • Collaborate closely with module leads and key stakeholders to formulate and execute joint product and innovation roadmaps with suppliers.

4. Innovation Leadership

  • Scout and evaluate emerging technologies in battery materials, cell formats, assembly methods, recycling, and beyond.
  • Champion development and fast prototyping of innovative battery solutions, balancing performance, cost, manufacturability, and sustainability.
  • Promote best practices and breakthroughs, internally and with supplier networks.

5. Project & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage timelines, budgets, and deliverables for multiple battery development projects in parallel.
  • Collaborate with module leads, cross-functional teams, and stakeholders (purchasing, quality, manufacturing, service, etc.) to formulate and update the battery portfolio and technology roadmap.
  • Communicates progress, risks, and needs to internal leadership, external partners, and cross-functional teams.
  • Prepare and present technical documentation, specifications, failure reports, and innovation roadmaps.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
  • Experience: At least 7 years of experience in battery system development (with hand-on experience is preferred), ideally for automotive, consumer electronics, or renewable applications.
  • Proven track record of successful supplier engagement and technology co-development.
  • Significant experience in battery portfolio management, daily maintenance practices, and lifecycle management.
  • Deep understanding of cell chemistry, manufacturing, BMS, validation, and safety standards.
  • Strong project management, leadership, and communication skills.

Desired Skills

  • Expertise in battery portfolio management, maintenance protocols, and lifecycle analytics.
  • Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, and automotive or consumer electronics certification processes.
  • Experience with simulation and modeling tools (ANSYS, COMSOL, MATLAB/Simulink).
  • Knowledge of global battery markets, supplier base, regulatory frameworks (UN38.3, IEC, UL), and sustainability trends.
  • Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration skills, including work with quality, manufacturing, service, and R&D.
  • Multilingual proficiency and willingness to travel internationally a plus.
