Position Summary
Sonoco is hiring a Pre-Expander (Assembler) for our Beecher, IL facility on 1st shift (6:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday-Thursday), with overtime possible on Fridays. Reporting to the shift supervisor, you'll perform essential assembly, prepping, and cleaning tasks to ensure high-quality Thermosafe products are shipped efficiently. Drive improvements in safety, performance, quality, data accuracy, and training to minimize waste. Starting rate: $18.04/hour. Advance by meeting performance requirements when promotions open.
Key Responsibilities
- Remove plastic flashing using hand files, scrapers, or sanders for cosmetic appeal and fit.
- Cut, grind, and trim composite or plastic parts as needed.
- Prepare parts for foaming and other production processes.
- Assemble components with adhesives, bolts, screws, rivets, or fasteners.
- Clean products before shipping and use hand pallet jacks for material movement.
- Maintain tools, equipment, supplies, and housekeeping standards.
- Practice safe handling of all equipment, materials, and products plant-wide.
Required Qualifications
- 1-3 months related experience/training preferred.
- Read/comprehend simple instructions, memos; speak/print simple sentences.
- Basic math: add/subtract whole numbers, fractions; read tape measure accurately.
- Apply common sense to 1-2 step instructions in standardized settings.
