Position Summary

Sonoco is seeking a skilled Process Engineer (Paper & Converting) for our Newport, TN facility. This progression role (Level I to Senior) focuses on optimizing paper manufacturing processes to boost productivity, minimize scrap, enhance quality, and improve the work environment. You'll lead process improvements, manage capital projects, and collaborate with teams to implement cutting-edge strategies using Six Sigma and Total Quality Management tools.

Key Responsibilities

As a Process Engineer, you'll:

  • Lead manufacturing control strategies and develop annual process improvement goals.
  • Analyze production trends to pinpoint and implement enhancement opportunities.
  • Manage capital projects, identify new technologies, and leverage innovations across Sonoco's Paper Division.
  • Conduct mill audits with support teams, create action plans, and oversee their execution.
  • Establish standard work instructions, document engineering changes, and qualify impacts with customers.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineers to develop paper grades and sustainable control plans.
  • Support maintenance systems and process improvement teams.

Required Qualifications

  • A BS degree in Engineering, Sciences, or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of manufacturing experience, ideally in paper or converting.
  • Strong skills in Six Sigma, TQM, data analysis, and project management.

  • Work with customers to qualify engineering changes and develop paper grades
