Position Summary

Sonoco is seeking a skilled Process Technician I for our Portland, IN plant. Reporting to the Production Manager, you'll ensure high-quality, efficient production across multiple machine lines on 1st shift (7:00am-3:30pm). With a competitive wage of $24.69/hour, this onsite role demands excellent attendance, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to team success in fast-paced manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor processes and material flow to meet quality and customer specs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, tests, trial runs, tool changes, and repairs per HECP LOTO.
  • Conduct quality checks including burst testing, salinity, and weights.
  • Report production numbers, organize tooling, and communicate with maintenance/vendors.
  • Direct packers for efficient labor use and meet production goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical skills for troubleshooting machine issues.
  • Excellent communication and ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Reliability, initiative, and quality focus; ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Read/understand manufacturing instructions and maintain high craftsmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor operations process, work and material flow to ensure quality and specifications are met
  • Report accurate production numbers and meet goals
  • Perform preventative maintenance, tests, and trial runs
  • Perform tool changes, repairs following HECP LOTO procedures
  • Conduct quality checks, burst testing, salinity, and weights
  • Communicate with maintenance, vendors, and direct Inspector/Packers
