Position Summary
Join Sonoco as a Project Engineer - Extrusion at our Union (Pinckney), South Carolina facility. This 100% onsite, hands-on role involves qualifying new extrusion tools and equipment, developing manufacturing standards, and driving continuous improvements in safety, quality, and productivity. Collaborate with quality teams, support plant floor operations, and leverage exceptional communication and project organization skills to excel in plastics manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
As a Project Engineer - Extrusion, you'll work safely in a dynamic manufacturing environment, assist in DFMEA-focused design reviews, inspect and modify tooling for stable production, transition projects to manufacturing, and lead ROI-driven improvements. Provide troubleshooting support for molds, robotics, and equipment, implement visual controls and standard work, enhance safety initiatives, and communicate professionally with stakeholders. Flexibility for extended hours and travel is essential.
Required Qualifications
We seek candidates with a 4-year engineering degree (or equivalent experience), 5+ years in plastic process engineering (RJG training a plus), expertise in pipe/profile extrusion, polypropylene, polyethylene, injection molding, and mechanical setup of molding equipment. Proficiency in Six Sigma, SPC, root cause analysis, and technical drawings is required, alongside proven problem-solving, communication skills, and a self-motivated, hands-on approach in a 24/5 plant setting.
