Key Responsibilities

Core Legal Practice Areas

  • Provide expert counsel to co-op and condo boards on governance, compliance, and regulatory issues under New York law.
  • Represent landlords in NYC Housing Court, managing eviction proceedings, holdover cases, and non-payment disputes.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate residential and commercial leases, with emphasis on rent stabilization and succession rights.

Litigation and Transactions

  • Handle end-to-end landlord-tenant litigation, from pleadings to trial and appeals.
  • Prepare essential documents including bylaws, house rules, resolutions, offering plans, and construction contracts.
  • Resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or aggressive litigation strategies tailored to client needs.

Firm Contributions

  • Take on diverse ad hoc assignments spanning real estate closings, financing, and development matters.
  • Participate in marketing efforts, client seminars, and internal training to build firm visibility and mentor junior staff.
  • Collaborate with partners and paralegals in a tight-knit team environment fostering innovation and efficiency.

Required Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate:

  • 4-8 years of substantive experience in New York City co-op, condo, and landlord-tenant practice at a law firm or in-house.
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active admission to the New York State Bar.
  • Proven track record in NYC Housing Court procedures, including familiarity with HP Action, illegal lockout cases, and succession claims.
  • Deep expertise in rent stabilization laws (RSL), Rent Control, and emerging Attorney General regulations.
  • Exceptional skills in lease drafting, negotiation, and interpretation for both market-rate and regulated units.
  • Strong litigation experience with motions, discovery, trials, and settlements.
  • Excellent communication, research, and organizational abilities; ability to thrive in a fast-paced, on-site setting.

Preference for candidates with Martin Act experience, sublet/assignment matters, or alterations application handling.
