Associate Attorney - Careers at Robert Half

full-timePosted: Feb 4, 2026

Job Description

About the Role

Join a prestigious law firm in Rockville Centre, New York, specializing exclusively in landlord-tenant law. Robert Half is proud to partner with this well-established practice seeking talented Associate Attorneys with 1-10 years of experience—or even newly admitted attorneys ready to dive into a dynamic caseload. This full-time position offers a salary range of $100,000 to $190,000 depending on experience, with an on-site schedule featuring flexibility to balance your professional and personal life. Located on Long Island, you'll serve clients primarily in New York City's five boroughs, attending housing court regularly to advocate for landlords in high-stakes eviction and tenancy disputes.

This role is perfect for attorneys passionate about real estate law, housing disputes, and litigation. Gain hands-on experience in one of the most active areas of New York practice, where you'll represent landlords almost exclusively in court proceedings, negotiations, and mediations. With a growing practice, there's ample room for career advancement, mentorship from seasoned partners, and the chance to build a niche expertise in landlord-tenant matters that will define your legal career.

Key Responsibilities

Core Legal Duties

  • Deliver expert legal advice to landlord clients on critical issues like lease agreements, non-payment evictions, holdover proceedings, and tenant rights under New York Real Property Law.
  • Appear in housing court 4-5 times per week in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, or Staten Island, handling trials, hearings, and emergency applications.
  • Represent clients zealously in mediations, settlement conferences, and negotiations with tenants and opposing counsel to achieve favorable outcomes efficiently.

Document and Client Management

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide array of legal documents, including residential and commercial leases, eviction notices (30-day, 14-day, etc.), petitions for possession, and stipulations of settlement.
  • Maintain clear, professional communication with clients, judges, court clerks, and adversaries, ensuring all interactions uphold the firm's reputation for excellence.
  • Educate clients proactively about their legal rights, responsibilities, and strategic options in landlord-tenant disputes, fostering long-term relationships.

Expect a fast-paced environment with a high volume of cases, allowing you to sharpen your advocacy skills daily while contributing to the firm's continued success in Long Island and NYC markets.

Required Qualifications

To thrive in this Associate Attorney role, candidates must demonstrate:

  • A Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active admission to the New York State Bar (new admits encouraged to apply).
  • 1-10 years of experience in landlord-tenant law; familiarity with NYC Housing Court procedures is highly preferred.
  • Proven comfort and reliability in regular court appearances across the five boroughs, including navigating public transit and varying court schedules.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for client counseling, document drafting, and courtroom advocacy.
  • Strong analytical abilities for legal research on statutes like RPL §232-a, HPML §27-2005, and recent case law developments.
  • High ethical standards, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a collaborative team setting.

Prior experience representing landlords in eviction proceedings is a plus, but the firm values enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
