Job Description

Controller - Join Our Innovative Healthcare Startup through Robert Half

Are you a seasoned accounting professional with a passion for healthcare finance and startup dynamism? Robert Half is proud to partner with a cutting-edge start-up healthcare organization in Beverly Hills, California, to find an exceptional Controller. This pivotal leadership role offers the chance to shape financial strategy from the ground up in a fast-paced, innovative environment. As Controller, you'll drive accounting excellence, optimize cash flow through expert factoring management, and lead revenue cycle innovations—all while enjoying remote flexibility with a preference for Los Angeles-area candidates to join occasional team meetings and networking events.

This position is ideal for finance leaders who thrive in healthcare settings, delivering GAAP-compliant operations and strategic insights that fuel growth. With a competitive salary starting at $150,000, this role combines autonomy, impact, and professional growth. Apply today via Robert Half and take your career to new heights in sunny Southern California!

About the Role

In this high-impact Controller position, you'll serve as the financial backbone of our healthcare startup, overseeing all accounting functions while partnering closely with executive leadership. Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll manage a small but talented accounting team, implement robust internal controls, and spearhead process improvements to scale operations efficiently. The role emphasizes hands-on involvement in factoring arrangements—a critical component for maintaining liquidity in our revenue-driven model. Remote work is the norm, but local LA candidates are preferred for quarterly in-person strategy sessions, team-building get-togethers, and networking in Beverly Hills' vibrant business scene. If you have 7+ years in healthcare accounting, including revenue cycle expertise and cash flow mastery, this is your opportunity to lead with influence in a startup poised for explosive growth.

Key Responsibilities

Your leadership will touch every aspect of financial operations. Key duties include:

  • Overseeing comprehensive accounting operations to ensure full compliance with GAAP, SOX, and healthcare-specific regulatory requirements like HIPAA financial protocols.
  • Owning end-to-end factoring arrangements: negotiating with lenders, managing reconciliations, monitoring cash flow forecasts, and delivering timely reporting to maintain optimal liquidity.
  • Leading revenue cycle management, from claims processing and AR collections to denial resolution, driving Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) improvements.
  • Preparing accurate financial statements, variance analysis, rolling forecasts, and executive-level management reports using tools like QuickBooks, NetSuite, or ERP systems.
  • Developing and maintaining robust accounting policies, SOX-compliant internal controls, and audit-ready documentation.
  • Collaborating with C-suite leaders on annual budgeting, long-range financial planning, and strategic initiatives like funding rounds or expansions.
  • Mentoring and developing a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Identifying inefficiencies and implementing automation/tools (e.g., AI-driven reconciliation software) to streamline processes and reduce month-end close cycles.

Expect to roll up your sleeves in this hands-on role, balancing strategic oversight with tactical execution in a lean startup environment.

Required Qualifications

To excel, candidates must bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in leadership roles within the healthcare sector (e.g., hospitals, clinics, or medtech startups).
  • Proven hands-on experience with factoring arrangements, cash flow optimization, and lender relationships—essential for our model.
  • Deep expertise in GAAP, financial reporting (10-Q/10-K equivalents), revenue cycle management, and healthcare billing nuances.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intacct), and BI tools like Tableau for analytics.
  • Exceptional communication skills to bridge finance with clinical and operational teams.

Bonus: Experience with startup equity management, VC reporting, or telehealth finance.
