Key Responsibilities

• Lead comprehensive accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, month-end close processes, and preparation of accurate financial statements that meet GAAP standards.
• Direct property-level accounting functions, handling complex reconciliations, tenant billing, ASC 842 lease accounting, and nuanced revenue recognition for hospitality and real estate revenues.
• Develop and manage cash flow forecasting models, track capital expenditures across development projects, and deliver detailed project-level financial reporting to support investment decisions.
• Maintain rigorous compliance with GAAP, SOX internal controls, and industry-specific regulations unique to real estate and hospitality sectors.
• Conduct in-depth financial analysis, variance reporting, and trend identification to deliver actionable insights and recommendations to C-suite leadership.
• Orchestrate annual budgeting cycles and rolling forecasts, integrating inputs from multiple properties and corporate functions for holistic financial planning.
• Collaborate closely with asset management, development, and operations teams to align financial strategies with operational goals and drive profitability.
• Foster strong external relationships with auditors, tax advisors, bankers, and vendors to ensure seamless audits and optimal financing terms.
• Champion process automation and improvements using ERP systems, BI tools, and advanced Excel modeling to boost efficiency, reduce errors, and enhance reporting speed.
• Build and mentor a high-performing accounting team of 6+ staff, promoting accountability, professional growth, and a culture of excellence.

Required Qualifications for Controller Success

To excel in this Controller position, candidates must possess:

• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; Master's degree or MBA preferred.
• Active CPA certification or equivalent (CMA, CGMA).
• 8-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in real estate, hospitality, or property management financials.
• Proven track record managing accounting teams and delivering in multi-property environments.
• Expertise in GAAP, lease accounting (ASC 842), revenue recognition (ASC 606), and real estate-specific standards.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills for partnering with non-finance executives.
• Advanced proficiency in financial software (Yardi, MRI, NetSuite, or similar), Microsoft Excel, and data analytics tools.
• Demonstrated success in implementing internal controls, process optimizations, and forecasting accuracy.
