Key Responsibilities

The Controller will oversee comprehensive financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strategic alignment. Core duties include:

• Directing all accounting functions: general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and specialized cost accounting for manufacturing processes.
• Leading month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes with precise financial statements and management reporting.
• Creating robust budgets, financial forecasts, and cash flow models to guide operational and capital decisions.
• Performing in-depth financial analysis of KPIs, profitability trends, cost variances, and growth opportunities.
• Strengthening internal controls, SOX compliance (if applicable), and GAAP adherence to protect assets and mitigate risks.
• Collaborating with plant managers on inventory valuation, COGS optimization, and production cost efficiencies.
• Handling treasury functions: banking relationships, lines of credit, and liquidity management.
• Coordinating external audits, tax strategies, and regulatory filings with CPA firms and advisors.
• Building and mentoring a high-performing accounting team through training and performance development.
• Providing executive support via financial modeling, M&A analysis, and long-term planning.

Required Qualifications for Success

To excel as Controller, candidates must demonstrate proven expertise and leadership. Essential qualifications include:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (Master's or MBA preferred).
• Active CPA license or equivalent certification (CMA, CGMA).
• 8-10+ years of progressive finance experience, including 5+ years in manufacturing or industrial sectors.
• Demonstrated success managing full-cycle accounting in ERP environments like SAP, Oracle, or Epicor.
• Advanced skills in financial modeling (Excel, Power BI), budgeting software, and analytics tools.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing-specific accounting: standard costing, variance analysis, inventory controls.
• Excellent communication skills for cross-functional partnership and board-level presentations.
• Track record of building teams and driving process improvements.

Experience in Syracuse or Upstate NY manufacturing is a plus, as is familiarity with regional economic factors.
