Key Responsibilities

Platform Engineering & Administration

• Configure and maintain Atlan for comprehensive metadata management, data lineage tracking, and customizable governance workflows.
• Set up and optimize DQ Labs or Monte Carlo for advanced data profiling, custom rule creation, anomaly detection, and interactive monitoring dashboards.
• Manage user access through roles, authentication protocols like SSO, role-based access control (RBAC), and robust security configurations.

Integration & Automation

• Design and maintain seamless integrations connecting diverse data sources, relational databases, data lakes (e.g., S3, Snowflake), and BI tools like Tableau or Power BI.
• Build automation pipelines for metadata ingestion and proactive data quality checks using RESTful APIs, Python scripts, Airflow, or similar ETL frameworks.
• Deploy and troubleshoot connectors for cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, and enterprise analytics stacks.

Performance, Scalability & Reliability

• Continuously monitor system health metrics, optimize query performance, and scale governance environments for growing data volumes.
• Apply security patches, platform updates, and perform root-cause analysis for technical disruptions.
• Implement advanced logging, real-time alerting via tools like PagerDuty, and proactive monitoring with Prometheus or Datadog.

Technical Support & Issue Resolution

• Deliver Tier 3 support for complex platform issues, minimizing downtime through rapid debugging.
• Investigate and resolve integration failures, configuration conflicts, and performance bottlenecks.
• Partner with vendors for escalated troubleshooting, feature enhancements, and strategic roadmap alignment.

Security & Compliance

• Enforce compliance with global standards including GDPR, CCPA, and SOC 2 through platform configurations.
• Implement data encryption at rest/transit, granular access controls, and comprehensive audit logging.
• Generate compliance reports and support risk assessments leveraging governance features and quality metrics.

Required Qualifications

To succeed in this Data Engineer role at our Houston client, you need:

• 5+ years in data engineering, DevOps, or platform administration with hands-on Atlan, Collibra, Alation, DQ Labs, or Monte Carlo experience.
• Expertise in Python, SQL, APIs, and ETL tools; cloud certifications (AWS/GCP/Azure) a plus.
• Deep knowledge of data governance principles, metadata management, and quality assurance best practices.
• Proven skills in security implementation, RBAC, SSO (Okta/SAML), and compliance frameworks.
• Strong analytical mindset for troubleshooting and optimization in high-stakes environments.
• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or equivalent; relevant certifications preferred.
• Excellent communication for collaborating with stakeholders and vendors.
