Key Responsibilities

Project and Asset Accounting

• Oversee comprehensive project accounting for both CapEx and OpEx, ensuring precise tracking, cost allocations, and capitalization in full compliance with U.S. GAAP standards.
• Manage end-to-end fixed asset accounting processes, from capitalization and depreciation schedules to impairment assessments and asset disposals.
• Handle intangible asset accounting, including amortization, impairment testing, and management of divestitures or disposals.
• Lead lease accounting initiatives under ASC 842, accurately classifying leases, recording right-of-use assets, and preparing required financial disclosures.
• Partner with project management, finance, and operations teams to refine capital expenditure tracking and strengthen financial controls.
• Deliver financial support, analytics, and commentary for mineral reserve reporting (S-K 1300), properties & facilities, and sustainability & environmental initiatives.
• Perform detailed accounts receivable aging analysis, incorporating credit assessments, past due history, and collections status to determine allowance for doubtful accounts.

Financial Compliance and Internal Controls

• Ensure ongoing adherence to U.S. GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) regulations, and internal corporate accounting policies.
• Design and implement robust internal controls to safeguard financial accuracy and minimize risks in project and asset accounting.
• Facilitate seamless support for internal and external audits, maintaining impeccable documentation and regulatory compliance.
• Spearhead process improvement projects to boost financial reporting accuracy, operational efficiency, and consistency across the organization.

Data Analytics and Financial Insights

• Leverage cutting-edge tools including Power Query, Power BI, Alteryx, and Python to build sophisticated financial models, automate reporting workflows, and uncover actionable insights.
• Enhance data governance and integrate systems for superior financial reporting accessibility, accuracy, and automation.
• Provide expert data analytics and reporting support to finance, shared services, and accounting teams, fueling strategic decision-making and operational excellence.

Required Qualifications

To excel as Director of Accounting at this Chicago-based firm, candidates must possess:

• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; Master's or MBA preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting, including at least 5 years focused on project, fixed assets, or lease accounting.

• Demonstrated proficiency in data analytics platforms such as Power BI, Power Query, Alteryx, and Python for financial modeling.
