Join Robert Half in placing top talent for an elite opportunity with a boutique real estate development firm specializing in custom luxury residences for ultra-high-net-worth individuals. Located in the affluent Westport, Connecticut area, this Full Charge Bookkeeper role offers a unique chance to manage the financial heartbeat of high-stakes, bespoke home builds where every detail matters. If you thrive in precision-driven environments, value discretion, and enjoy partnering directly with ownership on multimillion-dollar projects, this position is your ideal match.

About the Role

This hands-on Full Charge Bookkeeper position supports a lean, high-performing team focused on crafting extraordinary custom homes. You'll handle full-cycle accounting for multiple development entities, ensuring impeccable financial oversight from inception to completion. Robert Half is proud to connect skilled bookkeepers like you with such prestigious opportunities in Westport, CT.

Key Responsibilities

Full-Cycle Bookkeeping & Accounting

  • Oversee all day-to-day bookkeeping activities for real estate development and related entities, ensuring accuracy across high-value transactions.
  • Manage accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR), processing vendor invoices, retainers, owner draws, and client billings with precision.
  • Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and subsidiary ledgers for multiple projects or legal entities.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, credit cards, and escrow accounts critical to real estate closings and funding.
  • Process bi-weekly or monthly payroll for small team members and coordinate with third-party providers for tax filings and compliance.
  • Execute month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals, deferrals, and prepaid expense adjustments.

Project & Cost Accounting

  • Track detailed project-level costs for custom luxury home builds, encompassing construction, interior design, landscaping, and professional fees.
  • Monitor project budgets, track draws from lenders or investors, and forecast cash flow to keep multimillion-dollar developments on track.
  • Perform job costing, variance analysis, and generate project-specific financial reports for ownership review.
  • Prepare customized reporting for lenders, equity investors, or principals, highlighting key metrics like cost-to-complete and profitability.

Financial Reporting & Collaboration

  • Prepare accurate monthly P&L statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports, packaged for executive review.
  • Collaborate seamlessly with ownership, project managers, and external CPAs on financial matters.
  • Support annual tax preparation, audits, and multi-entity compliance reporting with organized documentation.
  • Maintain a robust filing system for all financial records, ensuring audit-readiness and confidentiality.

Operational & Administrative Support

  • Manage contracts, vendor agreements, change orders, and financial documentation with the utmost discretion for high-profile clients.
  • Track insurance certificates, permitting fees, and compliance-related financials.
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis, scenario modeling, and reporting to support strategic decisions.

Required Qualifications

To excel in this Full Charge Bookkeeper role, candidates should bring 5+ years of hands-on experience in full-cycle bookkeeping, ideally within real estate, construction, or property development. Proficiency in QuickBooks Online/Desktop, advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs), and familiarity with project accounting software is essential. A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred, along with proven ability to handle multiple entities, escrow reconciliations, and confidential high-net-worth finances. Exceptional attention to detail, discretion, and communication skills are non-negotiable, as you'll interface directly with executives and advisors.
