Key Responsibilities

Operational and Compliance Support

  • Provide expert advice on landlord-tenant disputes, zoning and land use regulations, construction contracts, permitting, and environmental compliance.
  • Oversee relationships with outside counsel, manage litigation and alternative dispute resolution processes, and develop comprehensive risk mitigation strategies.
  • Guide corporate governance matters, ensure regulatory compliance, and support portfolio optimization efforts.

Strategic Business Partnership

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams on acquisitions, dispositions, refinancing, capital markets transactions, and property redevelopment projects.

Required Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must possess:

  • A Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active admission to the New York State Bar Association.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of substantive real estate legal experience, ideally in an in-house capacity or at a firm specializing in commercial real estate.
  • Demonstrated expertise in commercial leasing (especially retail and shopping centers), transactional real estate law, and related areas like zoning, land use, and construction.
  • Proven ability to handle sophisticated transactions, including financings, joint ventures, and portfolio-level deals.
