Robert Half is partnering with a leading organization in Tampa, Florida to find an experienced MS Access Database Developer Consultant for a critical 3-month contract position. This high-impact role focuses on modernizing a legacy Microsoft Access database by migrating from the outdated .mdb format to the more robust .accdb format, while supporting a major Office suite upgrade from 2013 to 2019. As a consultant, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring business continuity, data integrity, and seamless operations during this transformation.

Lead the comprehensive analysis of the existing .mdb database, meticulously reviewing all components including complex forms, advanced queries, macros, and custom VBA code. Execute the upgrade to .accdb format with full compatibility for Microsoft Access 2019, proactively identifying and resolving deprecated features, compatibility roadblocks, and performance bottlenecks. Implement industry best practices to optimize database structure, indexing, and query execution for superior performance in the modern environment.
Partner closely with enterprise IT teams during the organization-wide transition from Office 2013 to Office 2019. Rigorously test all database functionalities in the new environment, updating VBA modules, macros, and automation scripts to eliminate compatibility issues. Ensure zero disruption to daily operations through meticulous validation and iterative testing cycles.
Create comprehensive documentation covering the entire migration process, structural changes, code modifications, and optimization strategies. Develop intuitive user guides and training materials, then deliver hands-on sessions for end-users and staff to build confidence in the upgraded system. Conduct exhaustive testing protocols to verify data integrity, functionality, and performance, swiftly troubleshooting and resolving any anomalies.
Engage with project managers, IT personnel, and business stakeholders to gather detailed requirements, align on priorities, and maintain transparent communication. Provide regular progress updates, risk assessments, and escalate critical issues promptly to keep the project on track for successful completion.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Microsoft Access development with proven success in .mdb to .accdb migrations. You must demonstrate advanced proficiency in VBA programming, form/query design, macro automation, and database optimization. Experience supporting Office upgrades, particularly 2013 to 2019 transitions, is essential, along with strong problem-solving skills for resolving complex compatibility challenges.
Excellent communication skills are required for stakeholder collaboration, technical documentation, and user training delivery. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred, complemented by at least 3-5 years of hands-on Access development experience.
