Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day will involve a dynamic mix of oversight, compliance, and leadership:

  • Lead Payroll Processing: Manage end-to-end in-house payroll for 800+ employees, handling wages, benefits, garnishments, and deductions with precision across weekly and bi-weekly cycles.
  • Drive Compliance Excellence: Navigate multi-state payroll tax laws, wage and hour regulations, and union labor agreements to mitigate risks and ensure full adherence.
  • Handle Tax and Reporting: Reconcile submissions, prepare quarterly/annual filings including W-2s, and compile documentation for audits, workers’ compensation, and union requirements.
  • Resolve Issues Proactively: Act as the go-to escalation point for inquiries, discrepancies, and complex payroll matters.
  • Foster Collaboration: Partner cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and Operations to align payroll with broader business initiatives.
  • Innovate Processes: Identify inefficiencies and implement cutting-edge improvements to enhance accuracy, speed, and scalability of payroll operations.
  • Manage Systems and Teams: Maintain payroll software, update policies per regulations, and train/mentor staff to build a high-performing team.

Required Qualifications

To succeed, you bring:

  • 5+ years of hands-on in-house payroll experience, with proven leadership/supervisory roles.
  • Demonstrated success managing payroll for large-scale workforces (1,000+ employees).
  • Expertise in union payroll, multi-state compliance, wage & hour laws, tax filings, audits, and reporting.
  • CPP or FPC certification (highly preferred).
  • Exceptional attention to detail, confidentiality, and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities to inspire teams and stakeholders.

Experience with modern payroll systems and a passion for process optimization are key. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, HR, or related field is a plus.
