About the Role

As a Senior Accountant, you'll play a pivotal role in the corporate accounting team, managing critical month-end close processes and specialized accounting areas. This hybrid position in Chicago, Illinois, combines technical accounting expertise with strategic financial reporting. You'll work directly with executive management, shared service centers, and business unit leaders to ensure accurate financial consolidation and reporting. Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day will involve hands-on leadership in core accounting functions:

• Execute comprehensive monthly close activities, including preparing journal entries and account reconciliations for the corporate general ledger.
• Deliver polished monthly financial reporting packages to executive management, providing actionable insights.
• Partner with the shared service center to coordinate and manage the corporate month-end close process seamlessly.
• Field questions and provide expert support to business unit finance leads on close and consolidation matters.
• Own accounting and disclosure responsibilities for complex areas including share-based compensation, derivatives and hedging (FX and interest rate swaps), LIFO inventory, self-insurance reserves, debt covenant calculations, pension accounting, goodwill and intangible asset impairment analysis, and acquisition accounting.
• Maintain and update the company's accounting policies for these specialized areas to ensure compliance and accuracy.
• Assist in coordinating and developing training materials for quarterly global accounting and finance updates, enhancing team knowledge across the organization.

Required Qualifications

To succeed in this Senior Accountant role, you should bring:

• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
• 5+ years of progressive experience in corporate accounting, with proven expertise in month-end close and financial reporting.
• Deep knowledge of US GAAP, particularly in areas like derivatives, share-based compensation, LIFO, pensions, and impairment testing.
• Strong technical skills in ERP systems (such as SAP or Oracle), advanced Excel, and financial consolidation tools.
• Excellent analytical abilities to perform complex calculations like debt covenants and self-insurance reserves.
• Superior communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and explain technical concepts clearly.
• Experience with acquisition accounting and policy maintenance is highly desirable.
