Key Responsibilities

- Maintain accurate financial records while upholding GAAP and robust internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets.
- Step in during staff absences to handle accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), grant invoicing, and daily cash deposits seamlessly.
- Conduct thorough weekly audits of AP batches, checking invoice accuracy, authorizations, and supporting receipts.
- Prepare and post journal entries for insurance premiums, prepaid expenses, and monthly fixed asset depreciation schedules.
- Perform detailed reconciliations for critical accounts including AR, Investment Savings, Scully Fund, and Petty Cash.
- Deliver precise monthly General Ledger reconciliations to ensure reporting accuracy.
- Educate and train departmental staff on accounting policies, procedures, and best practices to foster organization-wide compliance.
- Manage and optimize electronic purchase order (PO) systems, including user training for efficiency.
- Partner with external auditors by compiling comprehensive work papers and documentation for annual audits and reviews.
- Provide flexible interim coverage for senior roles like Controller, Accounting Manager, or AP Manager during transitions or absences.
Required Qualifications
To succeed, you'll bring:
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of progressive experience in GL accounting, ideally within nonprofits.
- Deep understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and nonprofit-specific financial practices like grant management.
