Robert Half is proud to partner with a highly successful Real Estate Investment firm in the Greater Hartford area to find an outstanding Tax Manager. This role offers a rare blend of hands-on technical tax work, team leadership, and a sustainable work-life balance that public accounting professionals dream of. If you're a seasoned tax expert ready to advance in a stable, privately held organization with diversified real estate holdings and long-term investment horizons, this position is your next career milestone.

About the Role

Join a respected in-house tax function that partners directly with senior leadership. Unlike fast-paced Big 4 environments, this Tax Manager role provides leadership without burnout, focusing on strategic tax planning for real estate portfolios, compliance across complex entities, and mentoring a dedicated team. The organization values high tenure, collaboration, and innovation, making it an ideal home for tax professionals seeking longevity and impact. Located in vibrant Hartford, Connecticut, enjoy proximity to cultural hubs while thriving in a low-ego, high-reward culture.

Key Responsibilities

As Tax Manager, you'll drive the tax strategy for a growing investment platform:

  • Lead and mentor a small in-house tax team, delivering reviews, guidance, and career development to build bench strength.
  • Oversee end-to-end preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax filings for partnerships, corporations, individuals, and trusts.
  • Manage tax provisions, projections, and estimated payments to support accurate financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with executives on tax planning initiatives, optimizing efficiency for real estate acquisitions, dispositions, and holdings.
  • Conduct in-depth tax research on emerging legislation, like opportunity zones or renewable energy incentives, and complex transactions.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with deadlines, payments, and evolving regulations.
  • Handle tax notices, IRS audits, and authority inquiries with precision and confidence.
  • Champion process improvements, automation, and ad hoc projects to scale the tax function amid organizational growth.

This role demands technical prowess alongside soft skills to influence at the executive level.

Required Qualifications

We're seeking proven leaders with:

  • A Bachelor's in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or equivalent; Master's or CPA strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive tax experience, including 3+ years in real estate, investments, or partnerships.
  • Demonstrated team leadership in tax preparation, review, and compliance.
  • Expertise in federal/state/local taxes, provisions, planning, and research tools like CCH Axcess or Thomson Reuters.
  • Track record managing audits, notices, and strategic tax advisory.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and project management skills.
  • Adaptability to a dynamic real estate investment environment with long-term horizons.

Public accounting alumni transitioning to industry will find this role perfectly suited.
