TMS Consultant - Transform Transportation Operations at Robert Half

Join Robert Half's elite team of transportation technology experts as a TMS Consultant in Johns Creek, Georgia. This is your opportunity to lead cutting-edge Transportation Management Systems (TMS) implementations for Fortune-level clients, blending deep technical expertise with strategic business consulting. If you're passionate about optimizing supply chains, configuring complex TMS platforms, and driving operational efficiency, this onsite role in Metro Atlanta is calling your name.

Important: This position requires full-time onsite presence Monday through Friday at our client's Johns Creek office. Local candidates or those willing to relocate to Metro Atlanta only. Remote work is not available.

About the Role

As a TMS Consultant with Robert Half, you'll serve as the linchpin in full lifecycle TMS projects—from initial discovery and process mapping to go-live support and continuous optimization. This role demands a rare combination of transportation domain knowledge, technical configuration skills, and client-facing consulting prowess. You'll work with industry-leading TMS platforms, customizing solutions for LTL, truckload, ocean, and air freight operations while analyzing critical data like carrier costs, shipment volumes, lane performance, and modal optimization.

Robert Half places you at the forefront of supply chain digital transformation, partnering with clients who rely on you to bridge the gap between business needs and IT capabilities. Expect to engage in high-impact projects that deliver measurable ROI through smarter routing, cost savings, and seamless carrier integrations.

Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day will be dynamic and rewarding:

  • Lead End-to-End TMS Consulting: Guide clients through discovery workshops, process optimization, and system selection to deliver tailored TMS solutions that align with their unique transportation strategies.
  • TMS Configuration & Integrations: Hands-on configuration of custom features, EDI integrations, carrier onboarding, and API connections to ensure seamless data flow across enterprise systems.
  • Business Process Analysis: Conduct thorough reviews of current-state operations, identify pain points, and forecast future TMS requirements based on growth projections and market trends.
  • Project Lifecycle Support: Own project planning, detailed process mapping, system configuration, rigorous testing phases, comprehensive user training programs, and smooth go-live transitions.
  • Data-Driven Insights: Dive deep into transportation analytics—costs, volumes, lanes, modes—to provide actionable recommendations that drive carrier negotiations and operational efficiencies.
  • Client-Development Liaison: Act as the trusted bridge between business stakeholders and technical development teams, ensuring clear communication and timely issue resolution.
  • Testing & Training Excellence: Develop comprehensive test plans, scenarios, and scripts; lead UAT sessions; create intuitive training materials; and provide post-go-live support.
  • Contract & Tariff Management: Interpret complex transportation agreements across LTL, truckload, ocean, and air modes, ensuring compliance and optimal rate utilization within the TMS.

Required Qualifications

To excel in this role, you bring:

  • 3+ years of hands-on TMS consulting experience with platforms like Oracle Transportation Management (OTM), Blue Yonder (JDA), Manhattan Associates, or similar.
  • Deep expertise in transportation modes including LTL, truckload, ocean freight, and air cargo operations.
  • Proven track record in TMS configuration, custom development, and third-party integrations (EDI, APIs, WMS/ERP).
  • Strong analytical skills for transportation data analysis and business process reengineering.
  • Experience leading full project lifecycles: planning, testing, training, and hypercare support.
  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Must be local to Metro Atlanta or willing to work onsite 5 days/week in Johns Creek, GA.

Bonus: TMS certifications, SQL proficiency for reporting, and experience with carrier rate management tools.
