Job Description

Trial Paralegal – Labor & Employment Group at Prestigious California Law Firm

Are you a seasoned paralegal with a passion for high-stakes litigation and trial work? Join a highly respected, state-wide California law firm through Robert Half's premier legal staffing services. This firm handles complex, high-profile transactions and litigation for public agencies, private businesses, and large corporations, with offices spanning NorCal and SoCal. Our Labor and Employment Defense Group is seeking a dedicated Trial & eDiscovery Paralegal to support attorneys who focus 100% on defending employers—including corporations, public entities, and non-profits—across California. From class actions and PAGA claims to employee classification, discipline, leaves of absence, and union negotiations, you'll be at the heart of sophisticated legal strategies.

This full-time role offers the chance to immerse yourself in all phases of litigation, from initial pleadings through trial and appeal. With a competitive salary around $100,000 in San Diego, CA, this position combines intellectual challenge, professional growth, and stability in a collaborative environment. Robert Half places top talent in roles like this, ensuring you thrive in a firm known for its excellence.

About the Role

As a Trial Paralegal in the Labor & Employment Group, you'll play a pivotal role in defending employers against complex employment disputes. Our attorneys provide expert counsel on intricate issues like wage and hour class actions, representative actions under PAGA, misclassification lawsuits, disciplinary matters, FMLA/CFRA leaves, and collective bargaining for unionized workplaces. You'll work on-site regularly in our San Diego office, preparing for trials, managing voluminous eDiscovery, and supporting depositions and hearings. This is not a remote-heavy role—expect hands-on involvement in courtrooms and strategy sessions, making it ideal for paralegals who excel in dynamic, fast-paced settings.

San Diego's vibrant legal market demands skilled professionals who can handle high-profile cases. With Robert Half's backing, you'll gain access to this opportunity at a firm with a statewide reputation for winning results.

Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day will be action-packed and impactful:

  • Prepare for and attend trials: Organize trial notebooks, manage exhibits, coordinate witnesses, and assist in courtroom proceedings.
  • Manage eDiscovery throughout all phases: Handle data collection, review, processing, and production using advanced tools like Relativity or Concordance.
  • Assist with deposition and hearing preparation: Create detailed exhibit lists, witness outlines, and digests; prepare attorneys for key testimonies.
  • Support full litigation lifecycle: Draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and appellate briefs under attorney supervision.
  • Collaborate on labor & employment matters: Research case law, summarize depositions, and track deadlines in high-volume caseloads.
  • Work on-site regularly: Be present in the San Diego office for team meetings, client interactions, and urgent trial prep.

These responsibilities ensure you're integral to case success, from strategy development to victory celebrations.

Required Qualifications

To excel, you need:

  • 5+ years of trial paralegal experience, ideally in labor & employment defense.
  • Proficiency in eDiscovery platforms and litigation support software.
  • Demonstrated trial preparation skills, including exhibit management and witness prep.
  • Familiarity with California-specific employment laws (PAGA, wage/hour, etc.).
  • Paralegal certificate or bachelor's degree; litigation-specific training a plus.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to thrive under pressure.
  • Availability for regular on-site work in San Diego, CA.
  • Strong communication for interacting with attorneys, clients, and courts.

Candidates with experience in class actions or union negotiations will stand out.
