This role is an opportunity for a hands-on Design Engineering professional to make a direct impact within our Gearboxes and Starters team. Working independently, you will own the design and review of complex components and systems, collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing partners, and solve challenging design problems from concept through production. You will contribute to both the development of new products and the continuous improvement of existing designs, while helping to establish and standardize engineering procedures that improve quality, efficiency, and consistency across the organization.

What You Will Do

  • Reviews completed layouts and drawings to ensure clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
  • Communicates with the other engineering personnel to coordinate the interrelated design and ensure project completion.
  • Designs and reviews layouts of components, calculates stack-up of detail components, and performs cost studies consisting of new details and/or marked prints and all supporting documentation, when necessary, to facilitate operations and ensure that established objectives and budgets are achieved.
  • Resolves design problems of difficult scope to ensure project completion.  Engage with manufacturing and engineering counterparts to collaborate on production problem solving opportunities.
  • Designs new products and processes, and improves and maintains existing products to help create better products or processes and ensure that the current and future needs of the business are met.
  • Individual contributor diagnosing and solving problems and building engineering capabilities.
  • Designs and implements common procedures and standard work across the organization to optimize efficiency and quality.
  • Develops data and makes layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal.
  • Designs components or portions of functional systems with assistance of experienced contributors and brainstorming technically advanced prototypes using computer design and engineering systems.
  • Develops or improves products and facilitates manufacturing operations.
  • Develops data and makes layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals.
  • Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost.
  • Designs, develops and tests metallic or non-metallic structures or materials and their related fabrication processes for use in engineering designs.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Aerospace and Industrial Power Transmission systems experience is preferred.

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
