Canonical is a pioneering technology company at the forefront of the global shift to open source software. As the publisher of Ubuntu, the world's leading open source operating system, Canonical powers breakthrough initiatives in public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Our platform supports the world's top public cloud providers, silicon manufacturers, and industry leaders across sectors. With over 1200 colleagues in more than 80 countries, Canonical embodies global distributed collaboration. Most roles are remote, with teams meeting in person two to four times a year in exciting global locations to align on strategy and execution. Founder-led, profitable, and rapidly growing, Canonical sets the standard for excellence in open source innovation.

Role Overview

The Salesforce/NetSuite Engineering Manager in Canonical's Commercial Systems unit is a pivotal leadership role. This position focuses on the Business Systems team, which manages critical systems like NetSuite, Salesforce, and other CRM/ERP platforms. These services are central to Canonical's operations, enabling seamless business processes, compliance, and exceptional employee experiences. As a remote role based in EMEA, you'll lead software engineers in developing high-quality internal products that support Canonical's global growth. This is an opportunity for a driven engineering leader passionate about business systems, open source solutions, and delivering impactful results in a remote-first environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full accountability for the design, development, and operation of internal products using Salesforce, NetSuite, and related systems.
  • Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering high engineering standards and continuous improvement.
  • Develop the skills and capabilities of direct reports through coaching, feedback, and professional growth opportunities.
  • Identify and implement improvements to established processes, designs, and solutions to enhance efficiency and performance.
  • Build deep understanding of business needs across sales, operations, and finance to prioritize and deliver maximum impact.

Qualifications & Requirements

To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate exceptional academic credentials, including a strong track record from high school and university, and an undergraduate degree in a technical subject—or a compelling narrative for an alternative path. Proven experience in software development with Salesforce, NetSuite, or other CRM/ERP systems is essential. You should exhibit a history of exceeding expectations to achieve outstanding results, with professional written and spoken English and excellent presentation skills. A result-oriented mindset, personal drive to meet commitments, and willingness to travel internationally twice a year for up to two-week company events are required. Nice-to-have skills include experience in accounting, sales operations, or performance engineering.

Benefits & Perks

Canonical offers competitive, performance-based compensation tailored to location, experience, and results, with annual reviews and potential bonuses or commissions. Beyond base pay, enjoy a distributed work environment with twice-yearly in-person team sprints in inspiring locations. Receive a personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 annually, recognition rewards, generous annual holiday leave, maternity and paternity leave, and an Employee Assistance Program. Travel perks include Priority Pass and upgrades for long-haul company events, plus opportunities to meet global colleagues in new destinations. These benefits reflect Canonical's commitment to fairness, work-life balance, and employee success in a remote-first culture.

Career Growth

At Canonical, career progression is driven by performance and impact. As an Engineering Manager, you'll have opportunities to expand your leadership scope, influence business systems strategy, and contribute to Ubuntu's ecosystem. The company invests in your growth through dedicated budgets, mentorship, and exposure to cutting-edge open source projects. Annual compensation reviews ensure recognition of outstanding contributions, while global collaboration hones skills in distributed teams. Join a founder-led organization where excellence leads to rapid advancement in AI, cloud, and IoT domains.
