To ensure we are always on the cutting edge of performance and quality, we are looking for enthusiastic and innovative engineers to join our team in Staines-upon-Thames. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the next generation of mobile devices from Samsung. We need talented engineers with a strong low-level graphics and GPU development background on the Android platform, ideally with experience of working in the consumer electronics industry.The successful candidate will contribute to new, high-performance graphics solutions, integrate our solutions with new hardware platforms, optimise the Android OS graphics stack, benchmark our systems against competitors, work with 3rd party software developers and generally ensure that we have the best possible graphics experience on the market.This is a full time permanent role but we are also open to considering a professional contractor who is looking for a long term assignment.Role and ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior Engineer - Android Graphics Framework, you will:Develop innovations to optimise real-time rendering pipelines and deliver class-leading performanceImplement standard features and extensions for the Android Graphics stack (SurfaceFlinger, SKIA, HWUI, etc.)Analyse different graphics workloads, identify bottlenecks and optimise for performance and power usageDevelop optimal middleware libraries based on graphics and compute APIs (such as Vulkan & OpenGL ES)Bring-up and evaluate new devices, working with other teams to define and implement new UX requirementsHave technical responsibility for one or more significant sections of an assigned projectTranslate complex functional and technical requirements into detailed design and implementationSkills and QualificationsRequired Skills:A degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Natural Science, Mathematics, Engineering or any related discipline (an equivalent period of industrial experience may be substituted)Expertise in computer graphics with experience in the design and development of middleware based on Vulkan (preferred), OpenGL ES, OpenGL or DirectXUnderstanding of computer graphics pipelines and modern mobile GPU architecturesExpert proficiency in C and C++ programming languagesA proven track record in real time embedded software development - preferably for mobile devices – with a good understanding of the latest development environmentsSystem level performance analysis and strong OS fundamentals (memory management, multithreading/synchronization, user/kernel mode interaction)Excellent communication and team work skills, with a results-oriented attitudeProficiency in problem solving and debuggingDesirable Skills:Experience of SKIA graphics libraryExperience designing and implementing GPU shader algorithms (in GLSL, HLSL or equivalent)Experience developing system software for Android OSExperience working on GPU DriversExperience designing and implementing image processing algorithmsExperience working with ARM 64-bit architectureFamiliarity with CPU/NPU hardware architecturesExperience with Java and/or Python developmentFamiliarity with ML and neural networksEmployee Benefits:Highly competitive salary with performance bonus up to 21.5%.Employer pension contributions of 8.5%.25 days paid holiday (increasing to 30 with time served).Life assurance, medical insurance, and income protection.Flexible benefits scheme with £600 annually to spend on benefits.Samsung product discounts, subsidised employee restaurant, and free parking.Location and Hybrid Working:The role is based at Samsung R&D Institute in Staines-upon-Thames, Surrey, UK.Samsung operates a hybrid working policy of 3 days onsite and 2 days working from home weeklySamsung has a strict policy on trade secrets.
