Role Overview

Sanford Health is seeking a dedicated and skilled Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team in Aberdeen, South Dakota. This role offers the opportunity to provide immediate, high-quality advanced nursing care to patients presenting with non-life-threatening acute illnesses and minor injuries. As an integral part of our Urgent-Acute-Walk-In Care team, you will assess, diagnose, treat, and educate patients in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with physicians and healthcare staff to ensure efficient patient flow and optimal care delivery.

A Day in the Life

In this role, your day will be dynamic and challenging, requiring you to utilize your clinical expertise to manage a diverse range of patient conditions. You will:

  • Conduct focused patient histories and physical examinations to accurately assess patient needs.
  • Diagnose and treat acute illnesses and injuries such as respiratory infections, minor fractures, lacerations, burns, and allergic reactions.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including X-rays, lab work, and EKGs, to guide treatment decisions.
  • Perform minor procedures like wound suturing, splinting, incision and drainage, and foreign body removal.
  • Educate patients on illness prevention, medication use, and follow-up care to empower them to take an active role in their health.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with your scope of practice and established protocols.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to streamline clinic operations and enhance patient care.
  • Document patient encounters thoroughly and promptly in the electronic health record.
