Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in laboratory science or biological science (experience)
  • National certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) from ASCP or other HHS-approved agency (experience)
  • Medical Technologist (MT) certification may be acceptable (experience)
  • Registry eligibility required; must pass Board of Registry exam within 12 months of employment (experience)
  • North Dakota licensure required if working in North Dakota (experience)
  • Continuing education credits to maintain licensure and certifications (experience)
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques and procedures (experience)
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and protocols (experience)
  • Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment (experience)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (experience)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (experience)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team (experience)
  • Detail-oriented and able to follow instructions accurately (experience)
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively (experience)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Collect laboratory specimens from patients following established protocols.
  • Process and prepare specimens for testing, ensuring proper labeling and handling.
  • Perform a variety of clinical laboratory tests, including manual and automated methods.
  • Analyze and interpret test results, identifying any abnormalities or critical values.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all testing procedures and results.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, performing routine quality control checks.
  • Adhere to laboratory safety regulations and protocols, including infection control procedures.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and resolve technical problems.
  • Assist in the training of new laboratory staff.
  • Serve as a resource for other healthcare professionals, providing information and guidance on laboratory testing.
  • Monitor inventory levels of supplies and reagents, ordering replacements as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Participate in continuing education activities to stay current with advances in laboratory medicine.
  • Follow established procedures for handling and disposing of biohazardous waste.
  • May be required to travel to other locations as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare personnel.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of new laboratory procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
