Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation, and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to infusion patients.
  • Performs age-related patient assessment and intervention.
  • Schedules tests and interventions per provider order.
  • Collaborates with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement, and evaluate care.
  • Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge.
  • Utilizes appropriate age and population-specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting.
  • Functions within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Administers medications and treatments via infusion.
  • Monitors patients for adverse reactions during and after infusion therapy.
  • Provides patient education regarding their treatment plan and potential side effects.
  • Documents patient care accurately and completely in the electronic health record.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment for patients and staff.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assesses patient's physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs related to infusion therapy.
  • Manages central lines and peripheral IV lines.
  • Responds to emergent patient care situations requiring critical thinking and prompt assessment skills.
  • Prioritizes patient needs and practice demands efficiently.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Adheres to infection control policies and procedures.
  • Ensures accurate and timely documentation of all nursing interventions.
  • Participates in ongoing education and training to maintain competency.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Administers chemotherapy and biotherapy agents according to established protocols (if applicable).
  • Provides supportive care and symptom management to patients receiving infusion therapy.
