Required Qualifications

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Minnesota. (experience)
• Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred. (experience)
• ADN or BSN degree in Nursing from an accredited institution. (experience)
• Experience in post-anesthesia care preferred. (experience)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required. (experience)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification preferred. (experience)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification preferred, depending on patient population. (experience)
• Strong understanding of nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation). (experience)
• Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems. (experience)
• Knowledge of patient safety protocols and infection control practices. (experience)
• Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team. (experience)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. (experience)

Responsibilities

• Utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation, and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to patients in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).
• Collaborating with physicians and other inter-professional colleagues to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Demonstrating competency and practicing within the full scope of nursing expertise and knowledge.
• Utilizing appropriate age and population-specific standards as designated in the assigned clinical setting.
• Caring for patients in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move along the continuum of care.
• Planning and coordinating patient care, including pre-operative preparation and post-operative recovery.
• Performing comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs monitoring, pain assessment, and neurological assessment.
• Administering medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician, following established protocols and guidelines.
• Monitoring patients for complications and adverse reactions, and taking appropriate interventions as needed.
• Providing patient education and support to patients and their families, including instructions on post-operative care, medication management, and potential complications.
• Documenting all patient care activities accurately and completely in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Triaging patients based on their condition and prioritizing care accordingly.
• Implementing various nursing interventions to promote patient comfort, safety, and well-being.
• Functioning within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in the state of Minnesota.
• Adhering to the Sanford Professional Nursing Practice guidelines, which recognize the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association.
• Maintaining a safe and clean environment for patients and staff.
• Participating in quality improvement initiatives and performance improvement activities.
• Attending continuing education programs and professional development opportunities to maintain competency and enhance knowledge.
• Providing support and guidance to other members of the healthcare team.
• Assisting with the orientation and training of new staff members.
• Following infection control practices and protocols to prevent the spread of infection.
• Responding to emergency situations and providing life-saving interventions as needed.
• Advocating for patients' rights and ensuring that their needs are met.
• Communicating effectively with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team.
