Required Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse. (experience)
• If IV therapy/management skills are required in North Dakota: graduation from a Board-approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing. (experience)
• Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with the State Nursing board and/or possesses multi-state licensure privileges. (experience)
• Obtains and subsequently maintains required department-specific competencies and certifications. (experience)
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment. (experience)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills. (experience)
• Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures. (experience)
• Basic computer skills for electronic documentation. (experience)

Responsibilities

• Participate in the implementation and evaluation of patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician.
• Provide direct patient care, including vital signs monitoring, wound care, and medication administration.
• Educate patients and their families on treatment plans, medications, and self-care techniques.
• Review and respond to patient questions and concerns, escalating issues to the appropriate healthcare provider as needed.
• Assist with minor surgical procedures and examinations.
• Coordinate patient care activities, including scheduling appointments and referrals.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician or advanced practice provider.
• Monitor patients for adverse reactions to medications or treatments and report findings to the appropriate healthcare provider.
• Assist with diagnostic tests and procedures, such as EKGs and blood draws.
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, ensuring their comfort and safety.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to infection control protocols.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
• Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
• Adhere to all Sanford Health policies and procedures.
• Provide emotional support to patients and their families.
• Document all patient interactions and interventions in the EMR system.
• Triage patient phone calls and provide appropriate advice or direct them to the appropriate healthcare provider.
• Assist with inventory management and ordering of supplies.
• Ensure patient safety by following established protocols and procedures.
• Report any safety concerns or incidents to the appropriate supervisor.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.
• Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
• Attend continuing education programs to stay current with nursing practices.
• Assist with training and mentoring new LPNs and other healthcare staff.
