The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Surgical Trauma unit at Sanford Health provides professional nursing care for patients of all ages. Working in a structured care setting, the LPN adheres to Sanford Health's policies and procedures while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to deliver exceptional patient care. In this fast-paced environment, the LPN partners with a Registered Nurse (RN) to manage complex patient needs. The Surgical Trauma unit is comprised of a 44-bed unit and an additional 11-bed overflow unit with telemetry capabilities for adult patients. The unit provides care to a variety of patient populations, most frequently being surgical and trauma-related diagnoses. The unit works closely with several different surgeon groups and patients including general surgery, vascular surgery, plastic surgery, OB-GYN surgery, and bariatric surgery. The technical, hands-on skills of nursing are used every day on the unit, as most patients come with several tubes, lines, drains, and/or wound cares/dressing changes. This diversity creates an opportunity for LPNs to be challenged and grow within their scope!
