Responsibilities

  • Collect subjective and objective health status data from patients.
  • Communicate patient data to healthcare providers.
  • Participate in the care of patients by providing contributing data to licensed healthcare professionals.
  • Follow through on the patient's plan of care under the direction of the provider.
  • Communicate the provider's written instructions for care to the patient or caregiver.
  • Assist in preventative care, health maintenance, treatment, and follow-up.
  • Obtain vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration).
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
  • Observe and report patient's signs or symptoms.
  • Perform point-of-care testing (e.g., blood glucose, urine dipstick).
  • Administer injections and medications as directed by the provider.
  • Assist with minor surgical procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Clean and sterilize medical equipment and instruments.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control policies and procedures.
  • Answer phone calls and schedule appointments.
  • Greet patients and provide excellent customer service.
  • Process prescription refills as directed by the provider.
  • Assist with insurance pre-authorizations and referrals.
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies.
  • Provide patient education materials and instructions.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
