An associate's degree in Laboratory Science is required. You must also possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Registry-eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. If working in North Dakota (ND), you must be licensed or have a provisional license by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. You must also maintain continuing education credits as needed for license and certifications.
Key responsibilities include performing pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of laboratory testing, following standard operating procedures, ensuring laboratory safety, quality, and regulatory requirements are met, and serving as a laboratory resource to other healthcare personnel.
