A Day in the Life

As an Adult Geneticist at Sanford Health, your day will be varied and fulfilling. You will:

• Conduct comprehensive history and physical examinations to evaluate patients with suspected genetic conditions.
• Order and interpret appropriate genetic tests, including molecular genetics, cytogenetics, radiologic, and biochemical testing.
• Provide expert genetic counseling to patients and families, explaining complex genetic information in an understandable manner.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on genetic diagnoses.
• Collaborate with other specialists, including molecular pathologists, pharmacogenomics pharmacists, and genetic counselors, to provide comprehensive care.
• Participate in research activities to advance the field of medical genetics.
• Potentially teach and mentor medical students and residents through the Sanford School of Medicine.
• Engage in pre-emptive genetic testing and implement innovative genetic programs.
