Required Qualifications

  • M.D. or D.O. degree (experience)
  • Successful completion of a hospital-affiliated Pediatric residency program (experience)
  • Completion of a Pediatric Hematology-Oncology fellowship program accredited by the ACGME, AOA, or Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada (experience)
  • Eligibility for board certification in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology (experience)
  • Demonstrated experience in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of children, adolescents, and young adults with hematologic and oncologic disorders (experience)
  • Active involvement in inpatient services for at least 50 patients in the last 12 months, or active involvement in the care of 50 patients in clinical practice in the last 12 months (experience)
  • Ability to perform history and physical examinations (experience)
  • Ability to admit patients (if applicable to the setting) (experience)
  • Knowledge of staging and classification of tumors (experience)
  • Expertise in the application of multimodal therapy (experience)
  • Understanding of the epidemiology and etiology of childhood cancer (experience)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (experience)
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team (experience)
  • Commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care (experience)
  • Strong ethical and professional conduct (experience)
  • Ability to maintain credentialing and privileging requirements (experience)
  • U.S. Board Eligible or Board Certified in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Perform history and physical examinations on pediatric patients with hematologic and oncologic disorders
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment or consultative services to children, adolescents, and young adults with illnesses and disorders of the blood, bleeding and clotting, and immune system
  • Stage and classify tumors
  • Apply multimodal therapy, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, and immunotherapy
  • Manage complications of cancer treatment
  • Participate in clinical research and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of pediatric hematology-oncology
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, and child life specialists, to provide comprehensive care to patients and their families
  • Participate in multidisciplinary clinics, such as Long Term Follow Up/Survivorship, Hemophilia/Bleeding Disorders, and Sickle Cell Clinics
  • Provide education and support to patients and families
  • Document patient care accurately and completely in the medical record
  • Adhere to all applicable policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Participate in quality improvement activities
  • Provide supervision and training to medical students, residents, and fellows
  • Participate in departmental meetings and committees
  • Maintain professional competence and stay up-to-date with the latest advances in the field
