Physician - Pediatric Urology at Sanford Health: Join Our Mission in Sioux Falls, SD

Role Overview

As a Pediatric Urologist at Sanford Health, you will be an integral part of our multi-specialty pediatric clinic, working alongside experienced pediatric sub-specialists. You will provide comprehensive care to children with a wide range of urological conditions, including congenital anomalies, childhood-acquired urologic problems, tumors, trauma, and overlapping problems of adolescence. The position involves both surgical and clinical responsibilities, offering a diverse and rewarding practice.

A Day in the Life

Your day might involve seeing patients in the clinic for consultations and follow-up appointments, performing surgical procedures, participating in a multidisciplinary spina bifida clinic, and collaborating with other specialists to provide comprehensive care. You will also have the opportunity to participate in research activities and contribute to the advancement of pediatric urology.

  • Morning: Arrive at the Sanford Children's Specialty Clinic. Review the day's schedule, which includes a mix of patient appointments and surgical cases.
  • Clinic: See patients for consultations, follow-up appointments, and pre-operative evaluations. Evaluate new patients presenting with various urological conditions, order appropriate diagnostic tests, and develop treatment plans.
  • Surgery: Perform scheduled surgical procedures, which may include open, laparoscopic, or endoscopic techniques. Common procedures include hypospadias repair, ureteral reimplantation, and orchiopexy.
  • Spina Bifida Clinic: Participate in a multidisciplinary spina bifida clinic, working with other specialists such as neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, and physical therapists to provide coordinated care for children with spina bifida.
  • Afternoon: Continue seeing patients in the clinic. Review lab results and imaging studies. Document patient encounters in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Collaboration: Consult with other specialists regarding complex cases. Participate in team meetings to discuss patient care plans and coordinate treatment strategies.
  • Research: Dedicate time to clinical research activities, such as reviewing literature, analyzing data, and preparing presentations or publications.
