In this full-time position, you will play a vital role in providing individualized nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. A Day in the Life

Your day as an OR RN at Sanford Health will be dynamic and rewarding. Here's a glimpse of what you can expect:

  • 6:30 AM: Arrive at the OR, review the surgical schedule, and prepare your assigned operating room. This includes ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and functioning correctly.

    To be considered for this position, you must be a Registered Nurse (RN) with a current license in the state of South Dakota or a compact state. You must also have graduated from an accredited nursing program and have current BLS certification. ACLS and PALS certifications are preferred.

    This is a full-time position with various day shifts available. Most shifts start at 6:30 am. The nurse would work 3-4 shifts that start later than 6:30am (including shifts that begin at 9:00am, 10:30am, & 12:30pm) and 1-2 overnight call shifts. This RN position would be scheduled to work every 5th weekend (Saturday & Sunday). 1 - 2 holidays per year.

    The nurse-to-patient ratio in the OR is always one to one.

  5. What types of surgeries are performed in the OR?

    The OR performs a wide variety of surgeries, including orthopedic, cardiovascular, urology, OB/GYN, ear, nose and throat, ophthalmology, general, robotic, pediatrics, neurosurgery, and plastic surgery.

  6. What is the opportunity to learn new skills?

    Nurses in the OR start as a circulator nurse and then may have the option to learn the scrub nurse role. On-the-job training to become a scrub nurse will be provided.

    The Operating Room (OR) has a total of 35 operating suites, with three suites in the Sanford Heart Hospital, one of which is a hybrid suite. All of our ORs include state-of-the-art equipment.
