The Scientist, Inflammation position in Gilead's Inflammation Biology group offers a pivotal role in advancing novel therapeutics for unmet needs in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Based in Foster City, California, this full-time role involves supporting target identification and drug development using state-of-the-art technologies. Focus areas include restoring immune tolerance via targeted cytokines and tissue-resident immune cell functions. In this role, you will work within project teams to propel early-stage programs forward. Responsibilities include developing innovative cellular assays with primary immune cells to modulate high-value immunology targets. You will independently design, execute, and analyze in vitro and in vivo experiments to validate therapeutic hypotheses. Proactively evaluate emerging technologies, create new assays, and generate hypotheses on disease pathogenesis. Collaborate closely with experts in inflammation biology, protein therapeutics, structural and medicinal chemistry, and bioinformatics. Present findings to project teams and senior leadership, author research reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, IND filings, and patents.
Basic qualifications include 6+ years with a BS, 4+ years with an MS, or a PhD/PharmD. Preferred candidates hold a PhD in immunology, molecular or cell biology, biochemistry, or a related field, with 2+ years of postdoctoral experience, or a Master's with 8-10 years in industry. A strong foundation in cellular biology, immunology, and cell signaling is essential. Preferred expertise encompasses gene expression modulation (e.g., CRISPR, lentiviral transduction), preclinical inflammation models, and T cell biology, especially regulatory T cells. A proven track record of research productivity, evidenced by first-author publications in top-tier journals, is required. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, along with robust organizational abilities, are mandatory.
