Role Overview

As a Security Officer at Choice Hotels in Chicago, Illinois, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations and long-term strategy of our safety and security department. Key Responsibilities

Safety & Security Tasks (40%)

Your core duties include conducting routine inspections of loading docks and employee lots to maintain cleanliness and security. You'll investigate violations, respond immediately to emergencies, and take decisive action to safeguard everyone on property. Regular patrols, accident investigations, and accurate reporting are essential to keeping our Chicago hotel secure.

Team Development (40%)

Orient new employees, provide on-the-job training, and ensure the security team masters parking applications, from server resets to ticket jam clearances. Foster a proactive security culture with strong customer care, while building positive relationships across departments and with vendors.

Leadership Role (20%)

Promote security awareness through training for management and staff. Step up as a liaison for hotel management and guests when needed, meet with the Area Director of Facilities, attend event PreCONs, and lead both the security team and Safety Committee.

Qualifications & Requirements

To excel as a Security Officer, candidates need a High School Diploma or GED (Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred, with military or law enforcement training highly desirable). Require two years of security experience, ideally at upper upscale properties, plus supervision experience. CPR/1st Aid/AED Certification is mandatory, alongside solid knowledge of safety operations, strong interpersonal skills, and conflict resolution abilities.

Proficiency in MS Office and Outlook is required, with experience in high-volume, customer-service environments. Physical demands include standing or sitting for long periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing stairs, and navigating uneven terrain. You must demonstrate attention to detail, a positive attitude, teamwork, and commitment to exceptional guest service while adhering to hotel policies.
