Join Datadog's APM Experiences team as a Senior AI Engineer in Paris, France, and lead the development of cutting-edge AI-powered features for Application Performance Monitoring (APM). This role focuses on building LLM- and agent-based capabilities that help customers detect, resolve, and prevent performance issues faster through distributed tracing, service representation, and intelligent automation.

Work on groundbreaking features that debug application performance down to the root cause, proactively recommend optimizations, and automatically create intelligent monitors and SLOs for critical business flows. This highly product-minded engineering position spans problem discovery, UX design, prototyping, experimentation, and production deployment of scalable AI systems.

Key Responsibilities at Datadog

• Shape AI experiences for APM by designing and shipping LLM/agentic workflows that analyze traces, metrics, logs, and telemetry to generate diagnoses, explanations, and guided fixes.
• Own the full development loop: prototype quickly, define success metrics and evals, run experiments, iterate rapidly, and productionize for scale and reliability.
• Build robust agent systems including development tools, retrieval and planning strategies, guardrails, prompt management, evaluations, fallbacks, and human-in-the-loop integration.
• Integrate seamlessly with Datadog's platform surfaces like Trace Explorer, Service Catalog, monitors, and workflows to deliver end-to-end value in the APM UI.
• Partner deeply with Product Managers, Designers, and cross-functional teams to create cohesive, user-centric experiences.
• Raise engineering standards by writing performant, maintainable backend code and owning services in production for high-throughput, low-latency data systems.
• Develop autonomous agents that investigate performance issues and provide developer assistance.
• Create proactive optimization recommendations and automated SLO/monitor generation for critical paths.
• Leverage distributed tracing expertise (OpenTelemetry/Datadog APM) to enhance observability intelligence.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Product-minded engineer with production AI experience: 4+ years building backend or real-time ML systems valuing simplicity, correctness, and performance. Proven delivery of LLM/agent features including prompting, tooling, evals, and safety guardrails. Comfortable owning user journeys from prototype to GA with clear metrics.
• Strong ML/applied science fundamentals: Grasp of ML lifecycle (task definition, datasets, modeling, evaluation, deployment), statistics (experiments, confidence intervals), technique selection (anomaly detection, NLP, heuristics vs models), and reliable AI evals with golden sets.
• Distributed systems & observability expertise: Experience with microservices performance including tracing, latency analysis, concurrency, resiliency. Proficient in Go, Java, or Python; strong API design; production ops (monitoring, alerting, on-call).
• Bonus: Hands-on with distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry/Datadog APM), profilers, logs/metrics pipelines, agent frameworks, RAG, SLO/SLA practices, and incident response.
