Role Overview

Choice Hotels is seeking a talented Senior Data Engineer to join our SkyTouch Technology division in Scottsdale, Arizona. SkyTouch Technology, an independently operated division of Choice Hotels, delivers the most widely used cloud-based SaaS hotel property management system. In this individual contributor role reporting to the Manager of Software Engineering - Data, you will drive the design and reliability of our data ecosystem. This four-day onsite hybrid position ensures high-quality, scalable data powers analytics, reporting, and innovation across our hospitality empire. Take end-to-end ownership, balancing technical excellence with business needs in a collaborative team of 14 peers and cross-functional partners. Note: This role is not eligible for sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure data pipelines using AWS services like S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, EMR, and Athena.
• Architect optimized data ingestion, transformation, and storage for batch and real-time processing.
• Lead development of data models and schemas supporting analytics, reporting, and machine learning.
• Ensure data quality, reliability, and performance via monitoring, alerting, and validation frameworks.
• Optimize AWS costs and performance through resource efficiency and tuning.
• Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and product teams to translate business needs into solutions.
• Establish data governance, security, and compliance best practices, including IAM and encryption.
• Mentor junior engineers, participate in code reviews, and shape long-term data strategy.

Qualifications & Requirements

To excel as our Senior Data Engineer, bring a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience. You need proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, plus 5+ years building production data pipelines—with 2-3 years hands-on with AWS services (S3, Glue, Redshift, EMR, Athena, Lambda, Kinesis). Strong Python, SQL, and/or Spark skills are essential, alongside data modeling expertise (star/snowflake schemas). Experience with batch/streaming frameworks, scalable architectures, distributed systems, data partitioning, performance tuning, observability, and governance is required. Demonstrate competencies in managing complexity, valuing differences, and cultivating innovation, with top-tier debugging skills.
