The Senior Director, Strategic Communications role at Gilead Sciences is a pivotal leadership position within the Corporate Communications function. Based in Foster City, California, or Parsippany, New Jersey, this role reports to the Vice President, Corporate Communications. You will shape and execute enterprise-wide strategic communications to advance Gilead’s priorities, enhance reputation, and align audiences. Collaborating with Public Affairs, Media Relations, Internal Communications, Digital, Legal, Government Affairs, and HR, you’ll translate business strategies into compelling narratives. Ideal for seasoned communicators with biopharma experience, this position demands strategic vision, exceptional writing, and cross-functional leadership in a dynamic, high-visibility setting.
Develop and execute integrated strategies supporting Gilead’s corporate priorities, reputation, and objectives across external and internal audiences, leveraging earned media, digital platforms, and executive engagements.
Define, evolve, and steward Gilead’s cohesive corporate narrative, ensuring consistency across media, internal channels, social platforms, and leadership communications.
Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, guiding positioning, messaging, and opportunities in media, speeches, digital content, and internal forums to amplify Gilead’s voice.
Oversee high-quality materials like talking points, speeches, press releases, and social content, driving alignment across all touchpoints for maximum impact.
Partner with teams to coordinate storytelling, engage employees, and manage issues or crises with cross-functional precision.
Use data, metrics, and feedback to refine strategies; lead cross-functional groups and manage external agencies effectively.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in strategic and corporate communications, preferably in biopharmaceuticals or healthcare. Key qualifications include 10+ years of progressive experience, proven ability to lead complex initiatives, exceptional strategic writing and editorial skills, and sound judgment in fast-paced environments. You must excel in connecting storytelling with channels and executives, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and handling high-stakes situations like crises. A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field is required; advanced degrees or certifications are a plus. Experience in HIV therapies, oncology, or inflammatory disease communications is highly valued.
Gilead Sciences offers a premium compensation package, including a competitive base salary estimated at $280,000–$380,000 annually, performance bonuses, and equity grants.
