Key Responsibilities at MongoDB

• Conduct cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence, from frontier LLMs to embedding models and rerankers optimized for MongoDB Atlas.
• Innovate in next-generation information retrieval and LLM agent paradigms for enterprise-scale applications.
• Develop and fine-tune domain-specific embedding models for RAG, semantic search, and recommendation systems.
• Collaborate with research scientists, research engineers, and product teams across MongoDB's global organization.
• Integrate SOTA AI models with MongoDB's vector search capabilities for unstructured data processing.
• Design and execute experiments to push boundaries in AI model performance and efficiency.
• Contribute to research publications and MongoDB's thought leadership in AI and databases.
• Mentor team members and shape Voyage AI's research roadmap within MongoDB.
• Drive models from research prototypes to production deployment at global scale.

Qualifications & Requirements

• PhD degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, or related field from top institutions.
• Strong background in machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing with publications in top conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ACL, EMNLP).
• Expertise in distributed training of neural networks for language and visual understanding using frameworks like PyTorch or JAX.
• Proven track record developing embedding models, rerankers, or LLMs with real-world deployment experience.
• Experience with information retrieval, semantic search, or RAG systems in production environments.
• Familiarity with MongoDB, NoSQL databases, or vector databases is a strong plus.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills for cross-functional teamwork.
