As a Senior SDET, you'll own the lifecycle of query testing from parsing to optimization and execution. MongoDB's query engine is the heart of our globally distributed, multi-cloud database platform. Your work ensures every customer query executes correctly at scale, whether on-premises or via MongoDB Atlas across AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure.
Key Responsibilities at MongoDB
- Design, develop, and maintain automated correctness and performance tests for the MongoDB query engine
- Collaborate closely with Query Team engineers to ensure testability of new features and functionalities
- Automate tests covering both happy-path and edge-case scenarios for distributed query processing
- Identify, isolate, and document bugs within the database query system
- Partner with developers to ensure all issues are resolved before production
- Enhance automation frameworks to improve test coverage, execution time, and diagnostics tooling
- Review and approve testing plans during the design phase of Query team projects
- Certify projects meet their test coverage commitments at completion
- Provide expert feedback in code reviews focusing on testing robustness and reliability
- Develop performance test plans and monitoring frameworks for query optimization
Qualifications & Requirements
To succeed in this Senior SDET Engineer, Query role at MongoDB, you'll need:
- 5+ years experience in QA automation or software development with test automation focus
- Significant programming experience (Python, C++, Java preferred)
- Proven ability to work in highly ambiguous, fast-paced environments
- Proficiency writing and maintaining test automation for large-scale codebases
- Experience testing multi-tiered backend systems and distributed systems
- Solid computer science foundation: data structures, algorithms, software architecture
- Passion for quality and knowledge of modern test automation technologies
- Experience developing performance test plans and monitoring frameworks
- Bonus: Distributed query processing engines performance testing
- Bonus: Database query engines background or advanced degree
Success Measures: Within 3 months, master MongoDB MQL syntax and query engine behavior. By 6 months, lead complex testing efforts. After 12 months, own testing strategy for new features.
