Role Overview

The Senior Software Engineer, Atlas Growth role sits within MongoDB's cloud engineering group, guiding customers from initial cluster configuration through production-scale workloads. Atlas Growth leverages an in-house experiments platform for rapid feature validation via A/B testing, ensuring only customer-impacting work ships to production.

Engineers work in cross-functional squads with product, design, analytics, and research teams, focusing on single metrics like user retention. Recent projects include personalized Atlas landing pages, database performance recommendation systems, and conversion-optimized pricing pages. As part of the larger Atlas Core Engineering org, you'll build foundational elements of MongoDB's modern developer data platform.

This hybrid role in Dublin requires local candidates ready to lead complex projects, mentor teammates, and shape technical direction using TypeScript, JavaScript, Go, Java, and Kubernetes.

Key Responsibilities at MongoDB

• Lead end-to-end complex projects from technical specs to production deployment on MongoDB Atlas.
• Mentor peers through code reviews, informal guidance, and leading small engineering working groups.
• Write comprehensive scope and technical documentation for large initiatives assigned by management.
• Collaborate closely with product management to evaluate feasibility and guide the long-term roadmap for customer-facing features.
• Contribute high-quality, readable, well-tested, and debuggable code using TypeScript/JavaScript and compiled languages.
• Take ownership of specific domains, creating and executing improvement plans for products, processes, or infrastructure.
• Participate in on-call rotations and monitor highly complex features post-release.
• Drive A/B testing experiments and analyze results to validate feature impact on customer metrics.
• Provide thorough, well-reasoned reviews of team code, specs, and architectural decisions.

Qualifications & Requirements

• 6+ years of software engineering experience building scalable cloud applications.
• Fluency in TypeScript and JavaScript for frontend and backend development.
• Proficiency in Java, Go, C++/C, or similar compiled languages for performance-critical systems.
• Strong experience writing database queries and indexes in document-based (MongoDB) or relational databases.
• Demonstrated track record designing, releasing, and monitoring complex production features.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, container architecture, and cloud-native deployments.
• Experience with technical spec writing/review and interest in A/B testing or product design.
• Comfortable with on-call rotations in a high-availability environment.
