Role Overview

Join MongoDB's Atlas Identity and Access Management (IAM) team as a Senior Software Engineer in Toronto, Ontario. MongoDB Atlas is the world's leading cloud-native NoSQL database platform, powering fault-tolerant, globally distributed clusters across AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure. Our IAM team owns critical authentication (OAuth, SSO, Federated Identity) and authorization (RBAC, ABAC) systems, serving both internal engineers and external customers building secure applications on Atlas.

Key Responsibilities at MongoDB

• Design and architect core IAM components for MongoDB Atlas authentication and authorization.
• Lead projects end-to-end, from technical specification to production delivery.
• Mentor and grow team members, sharing expertise in backend systems and security.
• Improve codebase with modern best practices, design principles, and scalability optimizations.
• Define priorities and execute against them to advance the team's mission.
• Drive complex initiatives in distributed systems and multi-cloud environments.
• Build secure features like OAuth, SSO, RBAC, and ABAC for global customer base.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Atlas teams to enhance user experience.
• Innovate on IAM products that power the next era of software development.
• Contribute to first PR in week 1, lead projects by month 6.

Qualifications & Requirements

• 5+ years backend software engineering experience with compiled languages (Java, Go, C#, C++).
• Willingness to master JavaScript/TypeScript and frontend tech (React, Redux).
• Experience in IAM: OAuth, SSO, RBAC, ABAC, login/registration systems (preferred).
• Excellent communication skills for technical and cross-functional collaboration.
• Curious, empathetic, collaborative mindset with passion for problem-solving.
• Proven track record leading projects in high-scale environments.

MongoDB values intellectual honesty and a desire to learn in computer science domains. NoSQL and MongoDB Atlas experience is a plus but not required—we provide comprehensive onboarding.

Salary & Benefits
