As an AR Engineer, Level 4, on the Augmented Reality team, you’ll experiment, design, and support reusable components and frameworks that elevate developer experiences in pushing AR boundaries on Snapchat and Spectacles. You’ll enhance Lens Studio resources like tutorials, sample projects, and documentation, while working cross-functionally to bridge gaps in developer tools. Fielding technical queries from creators, you’ll ensure they unlock the full potential of our AR platform, fostering innovation in camera-driven experiences. We seek engineers passionate about AR innovation, proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript and 3D graphics, with strong communication to distill complex ideas. What You'll Do

  • Experiment with innovative AR components and frameworks to push the boundaries of camera-based AR experiences on Snapchat and Spectacles
  • Design and improve reusable components that enhance developer productivity in Lens Studio
  • Enhance and expand Lens Studio learning resources including documentation, sample projects, tutorials, videos, and code examples
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to identify and close gaps in the Lens Studio developer experience
  • Field highly technical questions from external Lens developers to maximize their AR creation potential
  • Support the growth of the Lens Studio community by creating immersive AR content for Snapchat lenses and Spectacles
  • Prototype cutting-edge AR features leveraging machine learning for scene transformations and real-time effects
  • Contribute to the evolution of AR technologies that bring creativity to more people, places, and moments
  • Analyze developer feedback to iteratively improve tools and workflows for AR innovation
  • Develop high-performance JavaScript/TypeScript solutions for web-based AR rendering
  • Work with 3D graphics pipelines to optimize Lenses for mobile camera experiences

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of post-Bachelor’s in computer science or other technical field experience in AR engineering
  • Master’s degree in a technical field + 2 years of post-grad AR engineering experience
  • PhD in a relevant technical field
  • Proficiency programming in JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar languages (C#, C++, etc.)
  • Understanding of 3D graphics concepts and familiarity with 3D packages (Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, or Cinema4D)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills for creative problem-solving

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing highly interactive experiences such as apps, games, or Lenses in Lens Studio
  • Experience designing, prototyping, and programming with real-time 3D engines (Unity, Unreal, Three.js, OpenFrameworks, Processing, WebGL/OpenGL)
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
  • Flexibility in learning tools for improving developer experience (e.g., video editing, course development)
  • Passion for the latest VR/AR/MR/Visual Compute technologies
