Our Legal Team is Snap’s in-house law firm, thought partner, and advisor, helping us do the right thing the right way amid rapid AR innovation. We’re seeking a Privacy & Cybersecurity Counsel to join our small, high-impact team managing global privacy and cybersecurity programs. You’ll collaborate closely with Product Counsel, Policy, Security, Engineering, Product, and Design teams to support Snap’s privacy-by-design for camera-driven features and AR experiences, ensuring creative innovation stays ahead of risks. In this role, you’ll provide strategic legal advice to Engineering Security on vendor due diligence, incident response, and compliance, while enforcing data security policies that align with global laws like GDPR and U.S. privacy statutes. Partnering with Privacy Engineering, you’ll enhance privacy-by-design for Snapchat’s visual messaging, Lens Studio AR creations, and Spectacles hardware. You’ll analyze risks for new AR technologies, conduct due diligence for partnerships, draft compliant product descriptions, track emerging legislation (including AI frameworks), and deliver trainings to keep our Kind, Smart, and Creative culture legally sound. The ideal candidate brings deep privacy and cybersecurity expertise, technical curiosity for AR and camera tech, and thrives in cross-functional settings at a fast-paced innovator. With excellent judgment, you’ll navigate complex issues to protect user data while fueling Snap’s mission. What You'll Do

  • Partner closely with Snap’s Engineering Security team to provide legal and strategic advice on vendor due diligence, third-party assessments, governance, risk, compliance, and incident response
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop, improve, and enforce Snap’s data security policies, standards, and practices to meet global legal requirements
  • Ensure Snap’s global data processing complies with privacy laws like GDPR and U.S. state/federal consumer protection laws
  • Work with Product Counsel on privacy, data security, and encryption issues for new camera, AR, and Snapchat products
  • Partner with Privacy Engineering to enhance Snap’s privacy-by-design program for innovative AR experiences
  • Analyze legal risks and regulatory requirements for new products, including Lens Studio and Spectacles AR glasses
  • Conduct privacy due diligence, impact assessments, and integration plans for acquisitions and partnerships
  • Draft public-facing descriptions of new AR and camera technologies while ensuring privacy compliance
  • Track and analyze global privacy, data security, and consumer legislation, advising Policy team on engagement
  • Conduct periodic privacy and security trainings across Snap’s creative and engineering teams

Minimum Qualifications

  • J.D. from a nationally recognized law school
  • Active membership in at least one state bar
  • 6+ years of experience practicing law
  • Experience counseling and working closely with Security teams, including on-call rotation for security and privacy incident response
  • Deep understanding of global cybersecurity laws, regulations, and frameworks (e.g., EU NIS 2, EU Cyber Resilience Act, Executive Order 14117, NIST frameworks)
  • Deep understanding of domestic and global privacy laws, including GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, Section 5 of the FTC Act, U.S. state privacy laws
  • In-house or law firm experience counseling on privacy, cybersecurity, product, technology, and mobile app-related matters

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of existing and emerging AI laws, regulations, and frameworks
  • Experience with privacy-by-design programs in tech companies
  • Background in AR technologies or camera-based products
  • Prior work on acquisitions, partnerships, or vendor due diligence in innovative tech environments
  • Familiarity with anti-spam laws, cookies regulation, and consumer protection frameworks
