We're hiring a Privacy Engineer, Level 4, in our Engineering team to help power Snapchat, Lens Studio, and Spectacles—reaching hundreds of millions of Snapchatters worldwide every day. In this role, you'll champion privacy across our creative, fast-paced culture, ensuring that innovative camera features, AR Lenses, and Spectacles protect user data while enabling authentic self-expression and fun shared moments. Join us to build technically sophisticated products where privacy is at the forefront, aligning with our values of moving fast with precision in a global community. As a Privacy Engineer, you'll work cross-functionally to understand and address privacy needs in real-time visual messaging and AR innovations. You'll advocate for best practices, guide the creation of industry-leading privacy features, and develop tools like data governance pipelines, retention/deletion systems, and Privacy-enhancing Technologies (PETs). Your contributions will safeguard user privacy in camera-driven experiences, from ephemeral Snaps to immersive Spectacles AR, fostering trust as we scale to new heights of creativity and connection. We're seeking engineers with strong CS and privacy fundamentals, proficiency in C/C++, Java, or Python, and experience in privacy-preserving systems. Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize independently are key. Snap's 'Default Together' policy means you'll collaborate in-office 4+ days a week to accelerate our culture and innovation. What You'll Do

  • Collaborate across engineering teams to identify privacy needs in Snapchat's camera features, AR Lenses, and Spectacles
  • Advocate for privacy best practices in the development of innovative AR experiences and visual messaging
  • Design and build data governance tools, including data understanding pipelines and retention/deletion systems
  • Develop Privacy-enhancing Technologies (PETs) to protect user data in real-time camera and AR interactions
  • Guide cross-functional teams in implementing industry-leading privacy features for global Snapchatters
  • Analyze privacy risks in high-scale systems reaching hundreds of millions of users daily
  • Enhance privacy controls for Lens Studio and Spectacles to enable creative AR innovation without compromising user trust
  • Conduct privacy reviews and audits for new product launches in camera technology and social features
  • Build scalable services for data compliance, ensuring adherence to global privacy laws
  • Partner with product teams to embed privacy-by-design in fun, moment-capturing experiences
  • Monitor and improve privacy metrics for AR and camera-based features

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science, mathematics, statistics, or equivalent practical experience
  • 2+ years of post-Bachelor's experience in security, privacy engineering, or related fields
  • Master's degree in a technical field with 1+ year of post-graduate security or privacy experience, or PhD in a relevant technical field
  • Experience building privacy-preserving systems, data governance tools, or data compliance systems
  • Proficiency in C/C++, Java, or Python
  • Strong understanding of privacy regulations and compliance standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Privacy-enhancing Technologies (PETs) such as differential privacy or homomorphic encryption
  • Background in AR, camera technologies, or real-time visual messaging systems
  • Prior work at a consumer tech company scaling privacy for hundreds of millions of users
  • Familiarity with data retention, deletion management, and data lineage pipelines
  • Contributions to open-source privacy tools or publications in privacy engineering
