Join our Infrastructure Security team as a Security Engineer, Level 5, to safeguard the innovative AR and camera technologies driving Snap's creative culture. In this role, you'll design and implement robust security controls for backend services and cloud infrastructure powering real-time visual messaging and AR experiences. You'll conduct security reviews, remediate vulnerabilities, and embed security into CI/CD pipelines, collaborating with Infrastructure, Developer Productivity, and Product Engineering teams to ensure secure-by-design practices from the start. Influence the adoption of LLMs and AI tools responsibly, mentor junior engineers, and champion user privacy across our ecosystem. We're seeking engineers with deep expertise in Go, Python, or Java; Kubernetes, containers, and multi-cloud environments like AWS and GCP; and protocols like OAuth. With 6+ years of experience, you'll thrive in our fast-paced, precise environment, contributing to human progress through secure, innovative camera and AR technologies. Snap's 'Default Together' policy emphasizes 4+ days in-office to build our vibrant culture faster.

What You'll Do

  • Design, architect, and implement security controls and frameworks for securing Snap's backend services, cloud infrastructure, and AR-powered features like Snapchat Lenses and Spectacles
  • Influence and improve production security controls, including visibility, hardening, identity, authentication, networking, and deployment policies to protect camera-driven experiences
  • Conduct in-depth security reviews of platforms, back-end services, and business application integrations supporting real-time visual messaging
  • Identify, triage, and drive remediation of vulnerabilities and misconfigurations across cloud environments and backend systems
  • Implement security into CI/CD pipelines to ensure fast, secure delivery of innovative AR and camera technologies
  • Partner cross-functionally with Infrastructure, Developer Productivity, and Product Engineering teams to embed secure design practices early in the development lifecycle
  • Influence the secure and responsible adoption of LLMs and AI tools across Snap’s engineering ecosystem, enhancing creative AR innovations
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, setting high standards of operational excellence and security engineering
  • Champion security and user privacy across Snap’s technology ecosystem, prioritizing the safety of hundreds of millions of Snapchatters
  • Collaborate on securing multi-cloud environments that power global, real-time interactions via Snapchat, Lens Studio, and Spectacles

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree in a technical field such as Computer Science or equivalent years of experience
  • 6+ years of post-Bachelor’s industry experience in security engineering
  • or Master’s degree in a technical field + 5+ years of post-grad security experience
  • or PhD in a relevant technical field + 2+ years of post-grad security experience
  • Experience with Java, C++, and/or Python
  • Hands-on experience deploying and securing services in multi-cloud environments, particularly AWS and Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience with authentication and authorization protocols/frameworks (OpenID Connect, OAuth, or Identity Federation)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Solid development skills in Go (preferred)
  • Deep understanding of infrastructure domains: Kubernetes, Containers, Service Mesh (e.g., Istio, Envoy), Networking, or Linux internals
  • Familiarity with cloud security tools such as CSPM platforms and native AWS/GCP security services
  • Experience securing CI/CD pipelines and mentoring junior engineers
  • Background in securing AR or real-time multimedia platforms
