Join our Spectacles Full Stack team as a Level 5 Software Engineer to architect features that make playing, learning, and working together more magical via see-through AR. In this role, you'll design and build end-to-end features spanning Spectacles devices, companion mobile apps, and cloud infrastructure, leveraging your full stack expertise to deliver low-latency, real-time experiences that integrate seamlessly with Snapchat's camera-first ecosystem. You'll partner with Product, Design, and engineering teams to translate visionary AR concepts into robust, scalable solutions, optimizing for performance in distributed systems and pioneering new frontiers in camera technology. From crafting intuitive web interfaces to powering backend services for AR interactions, your work will directly enhance how users capture and share the world around them. We're seeking a seasoned engineer with deep full stack knowledge, proven leadership in complex projects, and a passion for AR innovation. You'll lead by example, mentoring juniors while driving cross-team efforts to realize Snap's creative culture. What You'll Do

• Design, implement, and operate features across Spectacles device, mobile app, and cloud to enrich AR product experiences and advance spatial computing
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and cross-functional teams to understand requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver innovative camera-first solutions
• Build scalable backend systems including distributed services and microservices to power real-time AR interactions in Spectacles
• Develop intuitive web frontends using modern technologies to enhance user experiences with Snapchat's AR glasses
• Evaluate, test, and debug work rigorously, ensuring high-quality, performant code for mission-critical systems
• Plan roadmaps, direct work for others, and lead by example with high-quality deliverables that push AR innovation
• Troubleshoot and operate cloud-based systems in production environments supporting Spectacles' see-through AR capabilities
• Drive cross-team collaboration to align on shared goals and integrate Spectacles with Snapchat's camera and messaging ecosystem
• Optimize databases and services for low-latency performance in AR/VR contexts, enabling seamless real-world interactions
• Mentor junior engineers, fostering a creative culture of innovation in camera technology and spatial computing

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field such as computer science or equivalent years of practical work experience
• 6+ years of experience with consumer-facing backend software development
• 3+ years of experience in using TypeScript and Node.js to develop web frontend and backend
• Experience with relational, NoSQL, or vector databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Pinecone) in a production environment
• 2+ years of experience in mentoring junior team members
• Proven ability to independently lead and execute on medium to large sized features that take multiple weeks and multiple iterations
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with high attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct experience with building and deploying low-latency, real-time backend services to support AR/VR devices on major cloud providers (e.g., AWS, GCP)
• Experience with modern web front-end technologies (e.g., Next.js, Tailwind CSS, shadcn/ui)
• Deep understanding of database optimization, indexing, and high-availability patterns for data at scale
• In-depth experience with Backend-as-a-Service (BaaS) platforms like Supabase or Firebase for rapid prototyping and production-scale deployment
• Experience with SQL, NoSQL and vector databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Pinecone)
